What Is a Peptide API Manufacturer?
A peptide API manufacturer produces the active pharmaceutical ingredient for a peptide-based drug. It usually does this by chemical synthesis (solid-phase, liquid-phase, or a hybrid route), followed by purification, isolation, and release testing under GMP. The output is a regulated drug substance, not a catalog or research-use peptide.
That distinction matters when you search. Research-use peptides are labeled for laboratory work and are not intended for human use. FDA has issued warning letters to sellers whose "research use only" labels did not change the fact that the peptides were marketed as drugs for human use (FDA warning letter example). A GMP peptide API comes from a named site with documented quality systems, batch records, specifications, and regulatory support. FDA's ICH Q7 guidance sets the GMP expectations for API manufacture. This guide covers the second group only.
Use This Shortlist to Build Your RFQ
Start with a written brief. A supplier can make a peptide at one scale yet lack the route, analytical package, or validated site your program needs.
Copy this peptide API qualification brief into your RFQ:
- MoleculeSequence, salt or counterion, therapeutic category, and required purity.
- ProgramPreclinical, Phase I or II, Phase III, process validation, or commercial supply.
- RouteSolid-phase peptide synthesis, called SPPS; liquid-phase peptide synthesis, called LPPS; hybrid synthesis; or a conjugation step.
- DemandFirst GMP batch date, target batch size, annual quantity, and launch market.
- Quality packageProposed specification, related-substances method, peptide-content method, residual-solvent method, stability protocol, and batch CoA.
- Regulatory packageSite GMP certificate, relevant inspection record, DMF, CEP, ASMF, or filing-reference availability.
- Supply continuityCapacity reservation, change-control period, technology-transfer plan, and alternate-site strategy.
Our rule of thumb: eliminate a supplier only after comparing the same molecule brief and the same requested batch window. Ask every finalist for the same evidence package. That makes route, lead time, and continuity comparable.
For the testing terms in that brief, use our API quality testing guide.
How We Qualified These Manufacturers
Every company below publicly identifies peptide API development, GMP peptide manufacture, or pharmaceutical peptide supply. We reviewed each capability summary against the company's own product, service, facility, or corporate pages, with the most recent check in October 2026. Where a figure comes from an older announcement, the table gives its year.
A GMP certificate, inspection, DMF, or market filing is specific to a site and often to a product. A Drug Master File is confidential and supports a filing only through a letter of authorization, and ICH Q7 sets the GMP baseline for API manufacture. Check the proposed manufacturer in FDA's current establishment registration database, and remember that registration is not product approval. For specification expectations, the EMA guideline on synthetic peptides lists the tests a peptide API buyer should expect to see. Request the record that matches your proposed manufacturing site and molecule. The same request applies to every company, so the comparison stays focused on the evidence that changes a buyer's decision.
SPPS assembles amino acids one at a time on a resin. LPPS builds peptide fragments in solution. Hybrid routes combine both approaches, often to improve yield or purification for longer, modified, or commercial-scale peptides.
Compare 11 Peptide API Manufacturers
The first group suits buyers who need documented clinical-to-commercial capability. Each linked company name leads to the official source supporting the summary.

The commercial-scale suppliers separate into two useful groups. Bachem and PolyPeptide suit programs seeking established global peptide API networks. WuXi TIDES, Hybio, CPC Scientific, and Piramal publish larger scale signals that help buyers frame capacity discussions.
Three additional specialists belong on the same RFQ longlist when their strengths fit the molecule.
- Almac: a strong choice for clinical peptide programs, long peptides, and peptide-vaccine cocktails. Almac describes MHRA-inspected facilities, GMP experience with peptides over 70 amino acids, and analytical and ICH stability support.
- CPC Scientific: a strong choice for late-phase or commercial projects requiring peptide, oligonucleotide, or peptide-oligonucleotide conjugate capability. CPC lists annual peptide API capacity above 1,000 kg, and its Hangzhou facility completed a US FDA pre-license inspection for Hepcludex API under a BLA.
- GL Biochem: a fit for buyers who need custom, GMP, or catalog peptide capability from a Shanghai-headquartered supplier. Its official site lists GMP peptides, five manufacturing sites, and more than 1,000 employees.
For a commercial peptide program, move Bachem, PolyPeptide, WuXi TIDES, Piramal, CPC Scientific, Hybio, AmbioPharm, and ScinoPharm into the first qualification round. Add Almac when long-sequence clinical development is central. Add GL Biochem when its specific GMP site, filing support, and commercial route fit the brief.
Which Companies Fit Clinical-Stage Peptide Programs?
Clinical programs need process knowledge that can survive transfer into later GMP supply. The best first choice depends on whether your immediate risk is first-in-human readiness, long-sequence chemistry, or a complex conjugate.
For first-in-human peptide and injectable coordination, shortlist CordenPharma. Its Frankfurt investment supports early clinical GMP peptide API manufacture, with transfer to its Boulder commercial site as a program advances. CordenPharma also offers its PepCellerate first-in-human peptide-injectable service and Tag-Assisted Peptide Synthesis, known as TAPS. See CordenPharma's peptide platform.
For peptide conjugates and complex chemistry, choose WuXi TIDES. WuXi TIDES lists custom peptide synthesis, peptide conjugates, unnatural amino acids, API production, analytical services, and regulatory dossier preparation. Confirm modification-specific capability, such as cyclization or PEGylation, in your RFQ. See WuXi TIDES capabilities.
For long or difficult sequences, shortlist Almac and ScinoPharm. Almac documents GMP experience with peptides over 70 amino acids. ScinoPharm documents SPPS, LPPS, segment condensation, tangential-flow filtration, and column chromatography purification. Compare ScinoPharm's CMC platform.
For flexible clinical batch supply, shortlist AmbioPharm. AmbioPharm states that its US and China facilities have been inspected multiple times by FDA and make peptide APIs from gram to multi-kilogram scale. Confirm which site and route apply to your molecule. Review AmbioPharm's facilities.
Which Manufacturers Fit Validation and Commercial Supply?
Validation and commercial programs need a stable route, controlled impurity profile, qualified analytical methods, and capacity that matches annual demand. Ask about process-performance qualification batches, not simply production equipment. FDA's process validation guidance describes the lifecycle expectation.
Bachem fits established commercial NCE and generic programs. Bachem documents four GMP sites, grams-to-tons manufacturing, and regulatory documentation (DMF or CEP) for its listed generic peptide APIs. That portfolio includes glucagon, goserelin, leuprolide, octreotide, and triptorelin. Review Bachem's commercial model.
PolyPeptide fits programs that value a six-site cGMP network. PolyPeptide supports peptide APIs from preclinical development through commercialization. Its network operates in Europe, the US, and India. Review PolyPeptide's strategy.
Piramal fits buyers needing solution- or solid-phase manufacturing in India. Piramal's Turbhe facility lists 200 L SPPS vessels, 2,000 L downstream tanks, 11 downstream processing lines, and more than 12 peptide APIs scaled for commercial supply. Review Piramal's peptide facility.
CPC Scientific fits programs with substantial late-phase or commercial demand. CPC states annual peptide API capacity above 1,000 kg and per-batch capacity of 20 to 25 kg. Review CPC's manufacturing capacity.

Where Are These Peptide API Manufacturers Based? BIOSECURE and Supply Risk for US Buyers
Manufacturing location now affects a US shortlist as much as capacity does. The BIOSECURE Act was enacted on December 18, 2025, and it makes companies on the Department of Defense's Section 1260H list that provide biotechnology equipment or services automatically subject to designation as "biotechnology companies of concern." The Department added WuXi AppTec to that list on June 8, 2026. WuXi AppTec filed suit to challenge the designation, and on August 7, 2026, a court issued a preliminary injunction barring enforcement of it. The Office of Management and Budget's initial list of designated companies is due by December 18, 2026. The Act is aimed at US government procurement, grants, and contracts, so its effect on a private buyer depends on that buyer's federal exposure. Ask counsel to review your position; this article is not legal advice.
The table shows where each profiled manufacturer says it produces, so you can map exposure before the RFQ. A China-based site is not a designation. Check each company's status separately.
| Manufacturer | Manufacturing Locations Cited | What To Verify |
|---|---|---|
| Switzerland (Bubendorf, Vionnaz) and the US (Torrance, Vista) | Which site makes your API; Bachem states a non-China supply approach for key starting materials | |
| Six cGMP sites in Europe, the US, and India | Site-level scope for your peptide | |
| Turbhe, Navi Mumbai, India | Origin of intermediates and starting materials | |
| North Augusta, South Carolina, US, and Shanghai, China | Which site is assigned to your batch | |
| Taiwan and Changshu, China | Site assignment and starting-material origin | |
| Hangzhou, China, manufacturing facility; US headquarters; Hong Kong-listed parent company | Sites used for your program phase; ownership and exposure review | |
| Changzhou and Taixing, China | WuXi AppTec's BIOSECURE status and court challenge | |
| China | Site-level GMP evidence | |
| CordenPharma, Almac, GL Biochem | See each company's site pages | Request the site list for your molecule in writing |
Buyers who want non-China routes can start with the India-based manufacturers already profiled above, including Piramal and PolyPeptide's Indian site. Neuland Laboratories is outside the 11 profiled here. It describes a new commercial peptide facility scheduled to open in summer 2026, so confirm its operating status and DMF history before adding it to an RFQ. Jefferies analysts quoted in trade press expect Indian manufacturers to benefit from the WuXi listing in peptides. Even so, an India-made peptide can depend on Chinese intermediates, so ask every supplier to map where its starting materials and intermediates come from.
Ask every finalist for the same location evidence: the legal entity and address for synthesis, purification, testing, and release; the origin of critical starting materials; and any subcontracted steps. Record the answers beside the RFQ brief so quality, procurement, and legal review the same facts.
Aarise Pharma is not ranked in this comparison. We are an India-based API supplier, sourcing partner, distributor, and exporter, and we supply peptide APIs, including semaglutide, tirzepatide, and liraglutide, as bulk API or raw powder to qualified international B2B buyers, not as finished lyophilized vials. Regulatory status and permitted end use are confirmed product by product, and buyers remain responsible for confirming local registration and import authorization. Explore our peptide and pharmaceutical API offering to request specifications, samples, and documentation for your program.
Frequently asked questions
Request the site GMP certificate, relevant inspection record, proposed specification, CoA example, analytical-method summary, stability protocol, and filing-reference availability. Request a quality agreement and change-control process before the first GMP campaign. FDA's quality agreements guidance explains how owners and contract manufacturers divide responsibilities. Our peptide API supply-chain checklist turns those documents into a supplier-approval workflow.
Start with Bachem, PolyPeptide, WuXi TIDES, Piramal, CPC Scientific, Hybio, AmbioPharm, and ScinoPharm. Select the final RFQ group after reviewing the molecule's legal status, modification chemistry, batch demand, impurity limits, and target-market dossier needs.
Two regulatory points shape that review. FDA has proposed excluding semaglutide, tirzepatide, and liraglutide from the 503B bulks list, finding no clinical need for outsourcing facilities to compound them from bulk drug substances. For generic synthetic peptides that refer to rDNA-origin reference products, such as liraglutide and glucagon, FDA's guidance asks applicants to characterize peptide-related impurities and address immunogenicity risk. Ask each finalist for impurity data against that standard.
